How to find the right bicycle helmet

LED Fahrradhelm

The bicycle helmet – the most important protection when cycling. Regardless of whether you are an enthusiastic cyclist or have just discovered the bicycle or e-bike, a helmet protects you in the event of a fall: Wearing a bicycle helmet prevents between 20% of head injuries in those with minor injuries and up to over 80% of head injuries in those with particularly serious injuries* – provided it fits and is adjusted correctly. Especially in the dark season, cyclists should draw even more attention to themselves. Our LED bicycle helmet Simply.Protect , for example, offers an extra level of safety. Not only does it allow you to choose between different light modes, but thanks to a clever remote control you can even indicate your direction of travel using indicators. You can find out what else you should bear in mind when riding in the dark here .

But how do you find the perfect bike helmet? The size of the helmet is crucial: First, measure the circumference of your head at the widest point. This is usually about 2.5 cm above the eyebrows. Size specifications may vary slightly from brand to brand, but for the most part, the size breakdowns are as follows:

53 – 54 cm XS

55 – 56 cm S

57 – 58 cm M

59 – 60 cm L

61 – 62 cm XL

The Simply.Protect helmet with LED light is perfect for a head circumference of approx. 58-61 cm and is available in black and white.

Once you have found the right size, the next step is to adjust the helmet correctly:

  1. Check helmet

Better safe than sorry – that's why you should check the helmet before every ride to make sure it is free from damage and deformation. The inside of the styrofoam must also be free of cracks.

  1. Check field of vision

Put the helmet on horizontally and check that your field of vision is unrestricted through the helmet.

  1. tighten the knob

Use the dial at the back of the head to adjust the circumference of the helmet so that it sits firmly on your head. Quick test: Simply bend forward with the chin strap open - if the helmet stays on your head, it is correctly adjusted.

  1. Adjust the belt triangle

First, adjust the belt triangle regulator so that the belt straps are evenly taut. You can adjust them by moving the regulator as needed. If the helmet fits well, the belt distributors should rest on your cheekbones just below your ears.

  1. Adjust the chin strap

Finally, adjust the chin strap so that only one finger fits between the chin and the strap.

Simply.Bike wishes you a good and, above all, safe ride!
